2nd Annual Crumly/Torrance Traditional Wood Racket Tournament

Time to get in your closet, attic or garage and bring out your old wood racket! If you have never played with a wooden racket this is your chance to relive history in a fun tournament benefiting a great cause — The kids in the Tennis Success Program. If you have played with a wooden racket before you will have the opportunity to bring back old memories of those glory days of the sound of the ball coming off your strings.
The tournament is honoring Susan Torrance – a great player who grew up in Corpus Christi and was the Director of Tennis at the Al Kruse Tennis Center for many years where she taught and developed many tennis players. And the Crumly Brothers who all were well known tennis players throughout the State of Texas. The Crumly family was also very instrumental in growing the game in our community with their involvement with the Corpus Christi Tennis Association. We want to thank Doug, Rick, Nick, Vaun and the L.D. Crumly family for their continued support and sponsorship of our 2nd Annual Event.
If you don’t have a wood racket, Tennis Success has a good selection of wood rackets for your use. The tournament will also be played with traditional White Balls.
The tournament will offer 3 different flights: Ladies Doubles; Men’s Doubles; and Mixed Doubles
Each flight will be limited to 8 teams per flight. A compass draw will be played with 3 matches played. Matches will consist of 2 out of 3 sets with a 10 point tie-breaker in lieu of a 3rd set. NO-AD Scoring.
Play will start Friday Evening with Ladies Doubles at 6:00 pm followed by Mixed Doubles at 7:00 pm and Men’s Doubles at 8:00 pm.
Saturday play will start at 9:00 am with the schedule posted after draws made. A catered lunch will be provided at 12:30 pm. Fruit and bottled water will be provided throughout the event.
The cost for entry is $50 per person Entrants can donate more if so willing.
All Sponsors are granted a free entry into the tournament.
